The Chinese cargo ship Fu Shan Hai sank off the coast of the Danish Baltic Sea island of Bornholm on June 31, 2003 following a series of explosions. The ship, which was carrying 60 000 tonnes of artificial fertilizer sprang a leak on Saturday following a collision with the Cypriot-registered cargo ship “Gdynia” and was abandoned by all 27 crew members.


The crew were brought to safety in lifeboats.
On June 3, 2003, oil leaked out and reached the Swedish coast.
